Preventative Cloth Masks

Instruction and images are adapted from: Time Staff. (9 April 2020) "How To Make a DIY Face Mask for Coronavirus." Time.

Cloth facial coverings are NOT a substitute for other preventative measures, such as washing your hands or practicing social distancing. However, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that when surrounded by others, individuals wear cloth facial coverings.

T-Shirt Masks

1) Take the T-shirt and cut off approximately 7 inches from the bottom.

Materials:

1) 1 T-Shirt, made of cotton or another breathable material

2) Ruler

3) Pair of Scissors

2) The bottom of the shirt that was detached will make a two-layered rectangle. From this, cut a smaller rectangle across approximately 6 to 7 inches of the width of the material. The fabric that is left will make up the strings to the mask and the face covering.

3) To attach the mask, cut in the middle of the fabric strips to make strings. Then, tie one set of strings behind your head, and the other set behind your neck. You may have to cut out more material to make sure the mask fits, depending on both the size of your face and the T-shirt. Cut as much or as little as you need to ensure your mouth and nose openings are covered.
