Physical Health

Physical activity can be difficult during times of quarantine, especially since most fitness centers are closed. Physical activities such as exercise, yoga, and meditation are crucial tools to help you protect your health and contribute towards a positive mindset! Here are a few tips on how to remain physically active during these stressful times (adapted from the World Health Organization):

Spend a little time being active throughout the day

Take some time to have a little fun at home by dancing, gardening, playing with children, or exercising! Check out our “Self Care” page for a couple easy-to-follow workouts that you can do in the comfort of your own home.

Try to walk and stand whenever you get the chance!

Remain active by walking around or walking on the spot during a call instead of sitting down. Stand up whenever possible and reduce sedentary time. Leading a sedentary lifestyle poses numerous risks on your health and quality of life. As per the World Health Organization, approximately 2 million deaths a year are attributed to physical inactivity.

Relax

Mental Health

We understand that the coronavirus outbreak can be mentally stressful. You may be worried about your own health and the health of those around you. It is important that you find ways to cope with this stress and have a positive attitude! Here are a few tips (adapted from the CDC) on how to take care of your mental health:

Do not overwhelm yourself with news stories regarding the coronavirus outbreak!

It is important to stay informed about COVID-19 and how it is affecting those around you; however, make sure you take some time each day to hear about the positive stories, such as \how our community is coming together (P.S. you can find some of those stories on our spotlight page :) !)

Find time to relax and unwind.

Although you may be cooped up at home, there are still a lot of activities you can do for fun. It is important to partake in activities that make you happy, especially during these stressful times. Use our Self-Care or Kids Korner buttons for instructions for fun DIY projects that can be done with materials found around your house! There are also instructions for some projects listed below. If you make any of these creations, be sure to let us know, so we can feature you on our Instagram page!

Connect with others.

Make sure to talk to the people around you about the current situation and how you are feeling. You can also reach out to your friends and family, through phone calls or text messages. Spending time talking to family and friends is extremely important, and a great way to boost your morale!

Make a schedule.

If you are either partaking in online school or working from home, it is easy to get distracted and feel unmotivated. Making a schedule is a great way to stay productive, and help you focus on more positive things during this outbreak.
